The effect of single-mode fiber birefringence on current sensing is discussed. An optical fiber winding method of fiber optic current sensor is theoretically analyzed. This winding method can effectively reduce the birefringence introduced at the sensor head. The conclusion not only explains the decrease of equivalent Verdet constant and the non-linearity of the system, but also gives the theoretical basis for designing optical fiber current sensors with different uses. Also describes the system installation, adjustment methods and test results.
