蒋士铨《铜弦词》的内容,较多为纪游抒怀、题赠迎送、记事咏物之作。艺术上也有自己的个性。他的词完全摆脱了词为艳科的束缚,不作花前月下、歌儿舞女之吟;不为绮旎婉丽、偎红倚翠之语。出于慷慨激昂的个性,他的词意境浑厚,用语豪健,虽然内容多为应酬交往之作,而所抒发多为社会冷暖、人生际遇、身世沉浮、官场污浊之感情。他具有诗人、戏曲家的双重身份。他擅作传奇,曲之于词,更细腻,更深于情,更能打动人心。他写诗的才能与写曲的技巧常常融合在一起,使他的词也在豪健之中,频添出委婉细腻之风。他的亲情词便具有这种特点。清代词论家中,徐珂、陈廷焯、谢章挺、胡薇元、李宝嘉、丁绍仪等人都对蒋词作过评价。其褒贬不一,本文就三种意见而辨之。
