本研究选用的试材为10个高度自交且具有不同种皮颜色的蚕豆(Vicia faba L.)品系。亲本株间按Bond等(1980)描述的方法进行双列杂交。每一杂交组合仅用一株母本和一株父本。亲本株的自交后代也收获用来核对亲本的种皮颜色。1979～1980年种植F_1植株, The test materials used in this study were 10 Vicia faba L. lines with high seed color and different seed coat color.
