赛罕乌拉,蒙古语意为美丽寓饶的大山。这里森林繁茂,草原宽广,天地生和,万物共荣,被人们誉为华夏大地上一座充满生机的自然生态乐园。赛罕乌拉自然保护区位于内蒙古自治区赤峰市巴林右旗总面积10.04万公顷。她的前身为罕山林场,1997年4月由巴林右旗组建为罕山自然保护区,1998年2月升级为自治区级,并更名为赛罕乌拉自然保护区,2000年4月国务院批准为国家级自然保护区。2001年9月联合国教科文组织指定为“世界生物圈保护区”。
