西方音乐史学是跨越音乐学和历史学这两门人文学科的交叉学科。以往的学科界定过于偏重其音乐学性质的一面，而忽略了它作为历史学分支的主要性质，因而导致了在音乐史研究中以音乐（作品）研究取代历史研究的不良倾向。本文拟从以往对西方音乐史学学科界定的偏差和失误入手，讨论其在现阶段研究中发生的问题，提出作为音乐史学所不应忽视的历史学性质，还其以历史学分支学科的真实身份，为音乐史学学科正名。
Western music historiography is an interdisciplinary discipline that spans two humanities such as musicology and history. In the past, the discipline was too much emphasis on the nature of its musicology, while ignoring its main character as a branch of history, which led to the undesirable tendency of replacing the study of history with the study of music (works) in the study of music history. This article attempts to start with the deviation and mistake defined in the history of Western music historiography and discuss the problems that occur in the current research. It points out that historiography, which should not be neglected in music historiography, , For music history discipline name.
