The elastic modulus of rock is an important index to describe the deformation properties of rocks. The traditional method for determining rock elastic modulus is the static method. The theoretical basis of this method is Hooke’s law. Usually, the static elastic modulus E_s of a rock is measured by a resistance strain gauge method, a dial gauge method, and a lever extensometer method. These methods are cumbersome for the test procedure, and require high precision in the test piece’s machining, and the influence of the test piece’s end-face effect.
