Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO) is a common and frequently occurring disease in elderly women. The decline or lack of estrogen level is one of the most important causes of PMO. The key point is that the decrease of estrogen can lead to the corresponding enhancement of immune function. Activate and proliferate T cells, resulting in a large number of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), promote osteoclast formation. This process is regulated by a variety of cytokines such as M-CSF, RANKL, TGF-β, IL and Interferon gamma (INF-γ) and other regulation. The progress of research on the mechanism of action of estrogen on PMO by immune reaction pathway is briefly reviewed.
