In the past 25 years, many member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency have been engaged in the development of high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. At present, high-temperature gas-cooled experimental reactors and demonstration reactors in West Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States have demonstrated the technical feasibility and advantages of generating power for such reactors and producing industrial heat. See Table 1 for details. Although high-temperature gas-cooled reactors have not yet had large-scale commercial applications, besides generating electricity, its potential for providing high-temperature process steam and various industrial heat, and its high safety margin, have led to the further development of this concept of reactors. It is very attractive.
