甜菜、玉米是我区的主要栽培作物。但目前这方面的收获机械比较缺少，收获季节要投入大量的劳力抢收。为了适应甜菜生产发展和茎杆还田、青贮饲料的需要，近年来，新疆农垦科学院农机所、石河子总场修造厂、芳草湖怠、场修配厂、一四三团场修造厂等单位协作，分别进行了甜菜和玉米分段收获机械的研制工作，并取得了可喜的成果。
