According to the ASME Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, January 2010, the development of ceramic gas turbines that started in the 1950s led to the conclusion of most ceramic gas turbine development programs in the 1970s and 1980s. Although the durability of the components still does not meet expectations, the potential for significant energy savings and emission reductions with ceramic gas turbines proves to be right. Four gas turbines that may have commercial appeal have been identified: (1) small recuperative gas turbines (micro gas turbines) with 35% electrical efficiency; (2) potentially for co-production of efficient small engines with 40% electrical efficiency Regenerative Gas Turbine for Transportation Applications
