随着城市化进程的不断加快,处于城市敏感地带的工业厂房不断面临拆迁或异地重建的命运,如何运用这些工业遗址进行改造与再利用,是城市更新与发展过程中一个不可回避的问题。而在南宁,许多废旧工业厂房的改造利用还处于探索研究阶段,由于倒闭或者搬迁的因素闲置的厂房并未能获得很好地利用,在城市发展中未能起到显著的作用。并且在工业遗址改造这一领域南宁尚未能形成一个良好的改造与再利用模式。南宁市金刚水泥厂处于城市敏感区域,有良好的周边环境,对其进行平面空间构建、功能转变与置换、建筑结构更新维护、工业立面改造、景观空间营造等,可以创建一个新的发展模式,在广西城市发展中起到良好的示范作用。
