管理,作为人类一项特殊的社会实践活动,是随着人类的诞生而出现的。它既是人类社会文化发展的产物,又反过来实实在在地渗透并影响着社会文化的每一个角落。从这个意义上说,人类社会的历史就是一部管理实践和管理思想的发展史。在这个过程中,涌现了许多永载史册的人物,他们用自己的思想和实践活动影响甚至改变着管理的理念、方法和目的。泰罗就是其中的杰出代表,是他将科学的方法引入了管理,使管理从此成为一门科学。然而,但我们今天还在津津乐道泰罗科学管理思想的时候,我们是否真正理解其实质,对泰罗的评价是否客观公正。对此,丹尼尔.A.雷在《管理思想的演变》中提出了置疑。
