In order to seek an unsupported assembly method for reinforced concrete shells, we made some explorations from 1975 to 1977 and designed a 15 m × 15 m unsupported assembled double curved shell top cover in conjunction with a project. The bottom of the shell is a square with a height of 3 meters. The edge component is a cast-iron concrete cast-in-place arch. The project was successfully constructed in June 1978 and its use has been normal for more than five years. The shell is made of 100 pieces of prefabricated reinforced concrete ribbed plates, which are suspended and assembled by means of an A-frame, with a polyhedron approaching a double-curved shell surface. The A-frame system includes a lightweight A-frame, wire rope, and a removable jack. The A-frame supports the top edge of the opening shell on the dry edge component, and the bottom of the plate no longer has any support. Prefabricated shells start from four corners, along the circumference
