Objective To investigate the role of endothelin (ET) in the occurrence and development of acute stroke. Methods Radioimmunoassay was used to detect the changes of plasma ET level in 14 days in 120 stroke patients. Results (1) The plasma ET level in patients with acute stroke (114.75 ± 15.78) was significantly higher than that in the control group (66.75 ± 7.23) (P0.01); (2) (140.57 ± 13.84) were significantly higher than those of mild type (92.3 ± 4.2 6) (P <0.01). (3) The dynamic change of plasma ET level within 14 days: the peak value It is consistent with the formation of cerebral vasospasm after cerebral edema, hypoperfusion, ischemic penumbra and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Conclusions The pathophysiological mechanism of acute stroke is related to abnormal ET secretion. Monitoring plasma ET level may be helpful in judging the prognosis
