血卟啉是由正铁血红素除去中间铁原子的四个吡咯环结构成,因此,血卟啉可以认为是血红蛋白助成分之一,血卟啉是从新鲜血液中提取分离出来的光敏物质,在临床恶性肿瘤的治疗和诊断中即利用光敏剂血卟啉(HP)和血卟啉衍生物(HPD)能选择性地被恶性肿瘤所摄取,潴留于肿瘤组织内,排泄迟缓,而正常胚胎、淋巴或炎症等组织则吸收少,排泄快这一特性。
