The concept of “cultural security” has appeared in China since the 1990s and so far there have been many discussions, but the explanation of “cultural security ” is still quite confused. This article defines “security” as a deterministic problem and cultural security as a deterministic problem in the field of culture. However, certainty is neither the cosmic nor the social normal nor the principle of the composition and evolution of culture. From the perspective of cultural composition and cultural evolution, the culture has already included the uncertainty and is the response to uncertainty. As a result, the concept of “cultural security” is still lacking in justification. The appearance of this concept is actually both an expression of the problem of modernity and a reflection of the dilemma of China’s entanglement with China and the West and ancient and modern issues in modern times. This paper argues that it is time to abandon ideological entanglement, confront the essence of modernity and accept the uncertainty in culture.
