年画,伴随着我国农历春节送旧迎新的活动而产生。它起源于门神画。我国很早就有在门上贴画的习俗;画中所绘多为神话传说中的人物,用以驱邪避害。南朝梁宗檩所著《荆楚岁时记》说:“正月一日,绘二神贴户左右,左神茶,右郁垒,俗谓之门神。”唐代,又有了秦叔宝、尉迟恭、钟馗等以现实人物为蓝本的“门神”;大都画在桃木板上,挂在门前。北宋时,随着木版雕刻技术的发展,出现了木版印刷的年画,称作“纸画”;王昭君、赵飞燕等美女成为当时民间流行的年画题材。到了明末清初,年画的题材越来越广泛,
