The flexibility and repertoire of optical pattern recognition (OPR) techniques requireexpansion if the parallel and real-time processing features of opticla processors are to berealized in practical applications. The frequency p1ane corre1ator has been the hallmarkof OPR systems fOr l5 years.Recent refinements in this system such as weighted matched spatial filter synthesis.have been effectively applied to practical PR probletns when geometrical image distor-tions and multi-sensor intensity differences are present between the input and referenceimagery.
