活跃的“独立坞”导演有数十位之多,大多都获得过舆论和奖杯的褒扬。而这些电影作者们和他们的作品,无不充满了个性。我们挑选出的三位人物,当然不能代表他们的全部,然而他们三人的共同点:非科班出身、远离“体制”、自编自导、处女作一鸣惊人、以对话为作品要素、影像实验化、着眼于普通人的普通生活等等,都体现出了这一代影人的整体性倾向。而且,他们三人正好是独立坞运动的老中青三代:继承了美国独立电影传统衣钵的林克莱特承上启下、从圣丹斯和米拉麦克斯发迹的史密斯是独立坞运动的直接推动者兼受益者、来自法国的冈瑞则体现了独立坞日益浓厚的国际化进程。
