In 1987, East China Normal University conducted a large-scale survey of 54,000 junior high school students in 15 provinces and cities across the country to test the basic knowledge of mathematics for junior high school students [1]. In 1988, Dr. M.L. Frank of the United States published the research results[2]. He made detailed observations and studies on 27 middle school students to explore the relationship between students’ mathematics and problem-solving abilities. The author thinks the above investigation work is very helpful. Inspired by [1] and [2], in the fall of 1991, the author organized a mathematics student from South China Normal University to use an educational internship opportunity to make a mid-scale survey of the middle school students’ concept of mathematics. The survey covered 1,131 junior high school students from 11 middle schools, high schools and high schools in 11 middle schools in Guangzhou. Among them are general secondary schools, key secondary schools, urban secondary schools and suburban county secondary schools. The purpose of the survey is: 1. To compare the mathematics views of middle school students in China and the United States and to horizontally reflect the differences in mathematics teaching between China and the United States. (This work is carried out in conjunction with American scholars, see [3].) 2. Researching the number of students in China through a survey of students’ mathematics
