构建社会主义和谐社会,是党的十六大和十六届三中、四中全会提出的重大任务,是全党同志和全国人民的共同愿望,是中国特色社会主义事业来新的伟大实践。社会主义和谐社会的基本特征是“民主法治、公平正义、诚信友爱、充满活力、安定有序、人与自然和谐相处”。这充分表明了,构建社会主义和谐社会,不仅要有繁荣的经济提供物质基础,健全的民主提供政治保障,还要有先进的文化提供精神支撑。因而,文化是构建社会主义和谐社会这一系统工程中重要的组成部分。
The construction of a harmonious socialist society is a major task proposed by the Party’s 16th CPC National Congress and the 3rd and 4th Plenary Sessions of the 16th CPC Central Committee. It is the common wish of all party members and people across the country and a new and great undertaking of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The basic characteristic of a harmonious socialist society is “democracy, rule of law, fairness and justice, honesty and fraternity, vitality, stability and order, harmonious coexistence of man and nature.” This fully shows that building a socialist harmonious society requires not only providing a material foundation for a prosperous economy, sound democratization and political guarantee, but also a spirit of advanced culture to provide spiritual support. Therefore, culture is an important part of the systematic project of building a harmonious socialist society.
