In determining the transthoracic impedance of experimental dogs to DC, the authors found that ST-segment elevation and macroscopic myocardial damage were common after 10 consecutive chest wall DC shocks. The degree of myocardial necrosis is not only related to the discharge energy but also affected by the size of the electrode plate and the discharge interval time.
