This article mainly discusses the development of French cancer treatment since the early 1990s. Such developments mainly include the development of fact-based treatment guidelines and the development of multi-disciplinary and cross-organizational personnel for the purpose of expanding treatment options. These system tools are at the core of the newly established hospital-to-hospital cancer treatment network. These changes can be understood as the response of the medical profession to the French health system, which is characterized by the strengthening of the patient’s status and rights and the improvement of public management awareness. In spite of this, in understanding these changes, it is necessary to consider the intricate competitive relationship between medical staff and medical institutions. In this way, we can understand why some health care workers are interested in these new organizational tools, and can also see its impact on cancer treatment organizations.
