Hand-foot-and-mout-disease (HFMD) is a childhood acute infectious disease caused by a variety of human enteroviruses, with EV71 and CoxA16 being more common. EV71 is prone to cause aseptic meningitis, encephalitis and poliomyelitis-like paralysis and other neurological related diseases, can be life-threatening. In order to explore the relationship between the type of pathogen, the severity of the disease and the clinical symptoms, and to further optimize the specimen collection program, the etiology and clinical features of HFMD in Shiyan City in 2010 were analyzed.
