大学英语翻译材料是一般题材的文章和科普、科技读物，其语言的深层结构与表层结构比较接近，语体大多为中性，所用词汇、语法和表达方式主要属于语言共核的范畴。因此，笔者认为大学英语的翻译能力应以培养直译能力为主，兼顾其它翻译技巧的运用。培养翻译能力有助于比较英汉两种语言的异同，消除对英语的陌生感、巩固原有的英语基础、提高理解与分析能力，以促进外语思维的形成。
College English translation material is a general subject matter article and popular science and technology reading material. The deep structure and the surface structure of its language are relatively close, the language style is mostly neutral, the vocabulary, grammar and expression used mainly belong to the category of language common core. Therefore, I believe that college English translation ability should be based on cultivating literal translation ability, taking into account the use of other translation skills. Fostering the ability to translate helps to compare the similarities and differences between English and Chinese, to eliminate the unfamiliarity with English, to consolidate the original English foundation and to improve the ability of comprehension and analysis to promote the formation of foreign language thinking.
