Objective: To investigate the curative effect of modified radical mastectomy and radical mastectomy for stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ breast cancer. Methods: Sixty - two patients with stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ breast cancer were collected from February 2006 to February 2008 in our hospital. According to the operation method, they were divided into the typical operation group (31 cases) and the modified operation group (31 cases). The typical surgery group was given typical radical surgery (Halsted surgery), the modified surgery group was given modified radical mastectomy (Patey surgery and Auchincloss surgery). Results: The average number of lymph nodes removed per patient was 18.0 in the typical surgery group and 11.6 in the modified surgery group. After 3 years, the survival rates of the two groups were followed up, 93.6% in the typical surgery group and 88.9% in the modified surgery group, and 1 in the modified surgery group. Conclusion: The modified radical mastectomy for stage I and II breast cancer should strengthen the blood supply to the pectoralis major muscle and the nerves that dominate its movement to improve the postoperative quality of life.
