2008年8月1日,在北京奥运鼓声奏响的前夕,在中国辽阔的西北腹地,在充满传奇色彩与浪漫神韵的丝绸古道上,将上演今年最为壮观、最动人心魄的罕见天象奇观——日全食。本次日全食带恰与我国著名的旅游线路——丝绸之路甘肃河西走廊段重合,甘肃河西走廊沿线各地观测地带降雨稀少、人烟较少,因此国内外多家天文权威观测机构确定丝绸之路甘肃河西走廊段为本次日全食活动全球观测的最佳地带,酒泉、嘉峪关两市为全球最佳观测城市。届时,甘肃省旅游局、北京天文馆将与甘肃省科协等有关单位共同举办2008甘肃“丝路神光”日全食观测旅游盛典。日全食观测旅游盛典包括天文爱好者“星空大会”、首届国际“日蚀之友”科普论坛、日食国际学术会议、日全食观测、天文大篷车科普宣传、精彩旅游推介六大活动。
