1988年春,佛教圣地五台山修塔时挖出一批淳化佛像金钱。每枚重12克左右。钱质黄金,成色一般在90％以上。正面钱文为行书“淳化元宝”,背面铸有左立、右坐两尊佛像,像下均有莲花座;背缘正上方有砸印一、二、三、四和无戳号者共五种。钱径2.4,厚0.12,穿径0.5厘米。佛像铸造精巧,立体形隆起0.2厘米,头部五官清晰可见,躯体栩栩如生,坐佛背后有佛光屏,立像为韦驮,手持如意。
