At a recent annual meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, researchers reported the impact of the interval between the time of delivery and the next pregnancy on the risk of preterm birth and low birth weight. The study looked at women who were born prematurely (at 37 weeks) at first pregnancy and analyzed the relationship between the next pregnancy and the relapse of preterm birth. As a result, it was found that less than 12 months to the next pregnancy increased the risk of another severely premature birth in women who had a first-trimester pregnancy. The study evaluated 11,555 women who had preterm births at first pregnancy. The study concluded that women with a history of preterm birth should be advised to postpone their next pregnancy and be pregnant at least 12 months apart,
