Morphine analgesic effect is generally considered to include two components: (1) acting on the spinal cord site, which is activated by the downlink suppression system; (2) direct effect on the spinal cord. Reserpine is known to antagonize the analgesic effect of morphine, while the down-inhibition system includes monoamine-type nerve fibers.
