“尔来四万八千岁,不与秦塞通人烟”,这是对解放前崇州交通状况最真实的写照。建国后,崇州的交通运输事业得到迅速发展,特别是党的十一届三中全会以来,形成了以县城为中心,省道为骨干的公路运输网络,其中有省道三条,计69公里;县道4条,计104公里;乡道18条,计105公里;其余为专用道。到目前,全市公路通车里程已达859公里,其中国家标准四级公路以上的占45.3%。公路密度达到每平方公里0.79公里。1987年,崇州在全省第一个实现了乡乡通油路,1993年,又在全省率先实现了村村通公路。
