Objective To analyze the equipment configuration commonly used in primary maternal and child health institutions in Changsha and to explore the relationship between equipment ownership and reproductive health projects in different levels of MCH institutions. Methods A total of 11 district (city) MCH institutions and 159 community service centers (township hospitals) were selected as the research objects in the grass-roots MCH in Changsha. Survey of maternal and child health institutions by 2013 using questionnaires for the proportion of medical equipment owned and the implementation of projects related to reproductive health. Results The proportion of medical equipment owned by primary MCH institutions in Changsha decreased with the decreasing of grade. The proportion of B-ultrasound, microscope and hematology analyzer in midwifery of MCH institutions in districts, counties and cities was higher, reaching 100%. Community service of streets Center (township hospitals) The above equipment ratio was 97.04%, 94.67% and 86.98%. The district-level MCH institutions have a ratio of 100% for abdominal B-mode ultrasonography and microscopy, and 100% for routine B-mode ultrasound and vaginal secretions. However, the proportion of equipment owned by community service centers at townships (township hospitals) is not exactly the same as the proportion of projects carried out. Conclusions Reproductive health services are basically proportional to the equipment of their facilities. The proportion of common equipment for grass-roots MCH institutions in Changsha should continue to be increased in order to meet the needs of the growing reproductive health services of grass-roots MCH institutions in Changsha.
