20世纪初发生的哈莱姆文艺复兴运动是20世纪美国黑人史上最重大的文化事件。在这次文艺复兴运动中,新黑人知识分子的作用是主要的,但这一文艺复兴运动的蓬勃兴起与发展,也离不开少数有见识、有良知、有正义感的白人知识分子的支持,其中被公认为是对哈莱姆文艺复兴作出了最重要贡献的人就是卡尔·范维克顿。他对黑人文化一往情深,利用自己的小说《黑鬼楼座》引起人们对黑人文化的广泛关注,资助了不少黑人作家和艺术家,努力保存黑人文化,为哈莱姆文艺复兴作出了杰出的贡献。
The Harlem Renaissance, which took place in the early 20th century, was the most significant cultural event in the history of Black Americans in the 20th century. In this Renaissance movement, the role of the new black intellectuals is dominant. However, the vigorous rise and development of this Renaissance can not be achieved without the support of a few well-informed and conscientious white intellectuals Among them, Karl van Vekton was recognized as one of the most important contributors to the Harlem Renaissance. He devoted himself deeply to black culture.
