Before the 1990s, many traditional handicraftsmen were active in the traditional streets and lanes, bringing the culture and vitality to the traditional streets. The disappearance of traditional streets and alleys today has caused these craftspeople to lose their place of inheriting folklore. We hope to take advantage of the special place in the city of Xi’an moat to create a space for folk artists to continue to inherit the folk arts and culture and better integrate into the modern city. Folk artistes engaged in their artistic creation in a small space like a river lantern. Each of these “river lights” can be drifted onto the river and naturally combine to form a distinctive combination of spaces that can even be connected as a pontoon. These “rivers and lanterns” gather and scatter the folk art to the city radiation, attract people to participate in folk art activities, and to achieve the purpose of disseminating folk arts and culture.
