哈尼族大部分聚居于滇南礼江下游红河和澜沧江流域的哀牢山区及红河、元阳等县。现有人口143万。哈尼族大都居住在云贵高原海拔800米～2500米的山区,主要从事农业,以善种梯田出名。哈尼人根据不同的地形、土质,利用“山有多高,水有多高”的自然条件,创造了独特的“梯田文化”。
The Hani mostly live in the Ailao Mountains and the Honghe and Yuanyang counties in the Red River and Lancang River basins in the lower Lijiang River in southern Yunnan. The existing population of 1.43 million. Hani mostly live in the mountains of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau at an altitude of 800 meters to 2500 meters. They are mainly engaged in agriculture and are famous for their terroir. According to different topography and soil quality, Hani people have created unique “terraced culture” using the natural conditions of “how high the mountain is and how high the water is”.
