Objective To investigate the relationship between the microvessel density (MVD) and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the clinicopathological features in gastric cancer. Methods Twenty-seven gastric cancer specimens were routinely paraffin-embedded and 5μm sections. MVD and VEGF immunohistochemical staining were performed. Results The average MVD was 37.81 ± 10.99 (a / field), the positive rate of VEGF was 59.26%. The MVD in VEGF-positive group was significantly higher than that in VEGF-negative group. The correlation between the expression of MVD and VEGF and TNM staging and lymph node metastasis (P <0.05) was not statistically different from that of histological differentiation and invasion of serosa (P> 0.05). 05). Conclusions The MVD value of gastric cancer is closely related to the expression of VEGF and plays an important role in the occurrence, development and metastasis of gastric cancer, both of which may be used as a useful indicator to reflect the biological behavior of gastric cancer.
