The Luanping basin can be analogous to the energy-bearing basins in eastern China. It has experienced five stages of tectonic development and has different basin filling characteristics in each stage. The dynamic analysis of the basin development shows that the dynamics of Mesozoic basin development in eastern China include the changes of tectonic stress field caused by the deep high heat flux and thick crust and the interaction between plates. Tectonic activities in Luanping basin control the development of the fan delta system by altering the depth of the lake, the ancient slope and the paleoclimate
