According to a study published in the June 2014 issue of the Science Report, pomegranates may contain some of the compounds that help prevent hepatitis C virus (HCV). Three compounds (pomegranate tannin, pomegranate polyphenols and ellagic acid) were found in pomegranates by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bangalore (IISc), which have been shown to be active in the inhibition of host-virus interactions Anti-HCV agents for single-stranded RNA viruses. These compounds inhibit the activity of NS3, a specific enzyme in HCV.
