With the development of biotechnology, biological macromolecules play an increasingly important role in the treatment of diseases, such as proteins, oligonucleotides and polypeptides. However, due to the natural barrier function of the cell membrane, the practical application of these biological macromolecules is limited. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are a group of short peptides with strong cell membrane penetrating ability, which can carry a variety of macromolecules into cells. This review summarizes the classification and transmembrane mechanisms of CPPs as nanocarriers and their recent advances in antitumor therapies.
