Zika virus infection has erupted in South America since mid-2015 and spread globally. Compared with the milder condition before, the outbreak of the Americas in 2015-2016 is especially worth noticing. Given the gravity of the virus’s global epidemic, and the upcoming Olympic Games in Brazil, WHO declared Zika virus infection “a public health emergency of international concern.” In April 2016, for the first time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claimed that Zika virus infection is likely to be the leading cause of microcephaly and other birth defects.
