西方人提起中国绘画,总是马上想到水墨卷轴,因为在欧美的美术馆中不乏这方面的珍藏。一位美国朋友对我说。一般西方人士对中国美术的概念是:好极了的古典绘画(宋元以前)和糟透了的现代绘画(明清以后)。近年来这种缺乏了解的状况正在逐渐改变。为了使西方人士也有机会亲眼看到二十世纪以来中国美术多元的发展,尤其是近十年中急剧而多采的变化,不少中外友好人士与机构作了许多努力,在国外举办当代中国美术展览,向公众介绍中国艺术家及他们的作品。西方一些重要报刊开始刊登有关中国当代艺术的文章。去年在美国还出版了第一本评介中国当代美术的英文专著。不过,总的来说,西方对这方面的了解和认识还是有限的。
