六十年代以来,随着空间技术的发展,空间科学研究日益成为当代科学活动中最活跃、最激动人心的前沿领域。从卫星的发射成功到载人航天飞行,从阿波罗登月到轨道空间站的建立,从航天飞机往返大气层到实现人类太空行走,在短短二三十年中空间技术的发展真可谓日新月异令人目不暇接.与此同时,空间科学研究,不仅作为空间技术发展的受益者,而且作为空间技术发展的源动力,其发展速度更是一日千里.各种具有广泛发展前景的新兴科学不断问世,如:空间物理、空间天文学、空间化学和地质学、空间生命科学、空间材料学、空间遥感学以及它们重多的分支学科及交叉领域.
