The application of this system on the MTU / DDC4000 series diesel engine made the diesel engine very successful. The first hundred years of diesel engine development have generally been characterized only by improvements in power output and fuel efficiency. LOrange’s in-line high-pressure pump developed for the 20-cylinder long-stroke MTU 4000 Series diesel engine in 2002 is the first example of a plunger pump technology with a sharp edge, as detailed in this article. What is remarkable is that the same type of in-line pump can be applied to the entire series of diesel engines, from 4-cylinder 100kW / cylinder (with one pump) to 18-cylinder 1200kW / cylinder V-type machine (with 4 pumps) Diesel engine structure is significantly simplified.
