联合国技术合作开发署主持，由加拿大政府协助筹备的《联合国地区间国际钻探学术讨论会》，于八月十五日至二十八日在加拿大安大略省的镍矿城萨德伯里市举行。来自北美、南美、北欧、亚太、非洲地区的三十个国家的八十名代表出席了这次讨论会。其中有从事岩心钻探工作五十五年的老专家，也有中年的科研、设计人员和富有经验的工程师，是迄今联合国有关机构召开的规模最大的一次矿产钻探专题讨论会。
The United Nations Inter-regional International Drilling Symposium, chaired by the United Nations Joint Agency for Technical Cooperation and co-sponsored by the Government of Canada, took place in Sudbury, a nickel mining town in Ontario, Canada, from August 15 to August 28. Eighty representatives from 30 countries in North America, South America, North Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa attended the seminar. Among them are veteran experts engaged in core drilling for 55 years, as well as middle-aged researchers, designers and experienced engineers. It is the largest mineral drilling symposium ever held by relevant UN agencies.
