Shanxi’s good achievement comes from a synergy from all members of the delegation, and scientific management, as well as from the tenacity and perseverance of all the athletes. In such traditionally better sports as classical wrestling, bicycle, wushu and gymnastics, Shanxi has captured all the 9.5 gold medals that were at stake. The credits should also go to all the leaders who have given their unstinted support, and to all the staff who have made selfless sacrifices. The backings of society and the meticulous deployment and good service from the headquarters are also the main reason and guarantee for such good performance. But, at the same time, we have seen clearly, through the experience of the Ninth National Games, that, compared with other advanced provinces and cities as well as with the international standards, the overall level of our competitive sports is not high; our competitive strength is not strong; good athletes are few and far between; the scale of the competitive sports is minuscule; and the process of part of the programs lacks the instrument of effective management and the sustainment of scientific training.
