早在五、六十年代,田昌五先生就陆续提出中国古代社会是宗族奴隶制,是和劳动奴隶制并行的另一种类型的发达奴隶制,后集为《古代社会形态研究》一书。八十年代初,先生又撰就《古代社会断代新论》一书,在讨论古史分期问题的同时,系统地论证了中国古代社会是宗族奴隶制社会的观点,形成了既符合人类社会发展的一般规律、又切合中国历史 As early as the 1950s and 1960s, Mr. Tian Changwu successively proposed that ancient Chinese society was clan slavery and another type of developed slavery parallel to labor slavery.
