When I visited the Japanese Painting Section of the Tokyo University of the Arts in December 1989, I saw that Japanese students were carefully grinding their fingers in white porcelain dishes to dissolve the mineral pigments and glue together. At that time I was really filled with emotion because only a few artists in China are using mineral pigments and know how to use them. Japan learned from the use of ore pigments from China during the Han and Tang Dynasties and has always insisted on and developed in the past two thousand years.
