在海南岛经济开发的历史上,是不能忘记海外华侨的杰出贡献的。华侨对海南经济开发的贡献是多方面的,其中之一是橡胶种植业。在最新的《海南年鉴》中,我们读到:现在的海南岛已是中国最大的天然橡胶生产基地,每年提供的天然橡胶约占全国产量的60％。面对这一现状,我们不应忘记:20世纪初最先把橡胶树引进海南岛的,正是漂泊南洋的华侨。
In the history of Hainan Island’s economic development, we cannot forget the outstanding contributions of overseas Chinese. The contribution of overseas Chinese to Hainan’s economic development is manifold, one of which is rubber plantation. In the latest “Hainan Yearbook,” we read that Hainan Island is now China’s largest natural rubber production base, and its annual supply of natural rubber accounts for about 60% of the country’s total. In the face of this situation, we should not forget that the earliest introduction of rubber trees to Hainan Island in the early 20th century was the overseas Chinese drifting in Southeast Asia.
