The International Machine Tool Expo has a history of nearly 70 years. At present, it has become an important place for free communication between engineering designers, users, vendors, and manufacturers. In the most recent exposition held in September 1994, about 115.018 exhibitors and 1.700 exhibitors gathered in Chicago, forming the most unprecedented spectacular exhibition of the 20th century. The first machine tool exposition was held in September 1927, organized by the World Machine Tool Manufacturers Association (NMTBA) and exhibited in the public hall in the city of Cleveland, Ohio, USA. About 12.000 people and 184 manufacturers attended and the exhibition hall was full. Two years later, in 1929, the second machine tool exposition was still held in the city of Cleland. During the conference, the second was jointly held by the Machine Tool Processing Association, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Association of Manufacturing Engineers and the Association of Automobile Engineers and the Machine Tool Association.
