In the Chinese scientific community, the age limit for young scientists is 45, and among young scientists under 45, the scientists born in the 1960s have made remarkable achievements since the late 1980s and early 1990s and have drawn the attention of the scientific community. The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars is currently the highest-level youth science fund in China. The first and the second batch of 130 scientists were nominated in 1994 and 43 of them were scientists born in the 1960s, accounting for 33% of the total. Most of the 1/3 scientists are returned overseas students in the early 1990s, such as Sun Fangzhen from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Luo Yi from Tsinghua University, Liu Zhongfan from Peking University, Lu Zuhong from Southeast University, and Chen Yongchuan from Nankai University.
